Right now I have 4 rats, 2 girls and 2 boys. The boys are neutered :)

Hi there, I am in Surrey, and I am looking to find a home for my 2 rat girls :( I am heartbroken but I have no other option.
Do you have any ideas where I could take them??? And if I rehome them myself (not through a rescue), how do you home check people and know that they are giving them a good and safe home? I'm a wreck worrying about them and I just want to find them somewhere safe that they will be loved. Thankyou. |

There are two rescues on the forum and both of them are in Scotland.
I'm not sure if they would take cage donations but I don't see why not really?

Hi there, I currently have a cage (bit small for a rabbit but i think its a guinea pig cage) i kept my hedgehog in it but she
sadly passed away a few days ago, i would like to donate it to a rescue or charity, im in glasgow and have emailed littlepawsrodentrescue@live.co.uk but it failed to send. anyone know of any other places that would take a donation of a cage?
the sspca dont use them anymore. |

We rehome a lot of ratties to families and all of them have got back to us telling us how great they get on with the kids and that the kids love them. :) |

I think rats are great pets for kids personally. What age are your girls?
If they are used to pets (the dogs) and are sensiable then I think it's a fine idea.
They are great little pets, very responsive and love attention from people.
They are great fun to watch. I'm sure if you go onto the forum you can find all the information you need to on diet and things like that, you don't need to post but you could join up if you wanted to see some of the other threads.

I'm Linda and I'm from Surrey.
We have always had dogs as pets but recently my daughters Christina and Ashley have been talking about getting a smaller pet.
I think because they have seen them in pet shops when we go buy our dogs food, they just spend all their time talking to the little animals there and I practically have to drag them away. I wouldn't buy from a pet shop and they know this, but I've been looking into smaller pets and came across your website while searching. I'm just wondereing if you think rats make good pets for children? I know those are never words people like to hear, but we (husband and me) would be helping look after them (I imagine I'll get the cleaning, the feeding, the water, and they'll get the playing and cuddling!!). Both girls are really responsiable, gentle and I know I can trust them with any pets. What do you think? I know this is a rat lovers website but just want people to be honest, are rats good pets for children - for families. Do they make food family pets, does anyone here have kids?
