Health
This is an area which is too large to cover fully here, so we have decided to write just a little about more common problems.
No good breeder, rescue, or pet shop will allow you to home a rat that is clearly unwell. Such as,
- Wheezing
- Coughing
- Listless
- Lack of appetite
- Not drinking
- Discharge from eyes and nose, often red in colour.
Rats can quite often be ‘snuffly’ and you may notice some red ‘snot’ at their nose, coat may look fluffed up, and their breathing sounding a bit wheezy. We recommend that you always visit your vet as they will prescribe medication (usually ‘Baytril’) which will ease their symptoms.
Other health issues are,
- Tumours
- Ear infection
- Mites/Fleas
If you are concerned at all, we would always recommend you seek the advice of a vet.
